Integrated Colmataging Fillers (Colmatants) for Drilling Fluids

ToR 2458-052-97457491-2012

Integrated colmataging fillers (colmatants) consist of lamellated lime carbonate in the form of organic calc spar crystals, granular mineral fillers, and modifying additives. Colmatants are intended for preventing and eliminating drilling fluid circulation losses. There are two grades of integrated colmataging fillers: KF-30R and KF-5R. The granulometric classes and types are marked as follows KF-5R means that 95 % of the particles are smaller than 5 mm; KF-30R means that 95 % of the particles are smaller than 30 mm.

Application

Colmatants have a broad fractional composition: KF-5R – from 0.04 to 10 mm, KF-30R – from 0.04 to 30 mm.The division by grades is conditioned by the convenience of choosing the optimal colmataging particle size for clogging cracks in permeated rock. Integrated colmataging fillers efficiently clog permeable reservoirs, minimally affect the flow properties of drilling fluids, and are acid-soluble, which allows using them in opening productive reservoirs prone to rinsing fluid circulation losses. The colmatant grade for use is determined for specific drilling conditions.

Processing

The processing of drilling fluid with colmataging fillers in a fraction of 2-4 % of its weight reduces the breakaway torque at the filter cake-disk interface by 100%.The recommended consumption of integrated colmataging filler for preventing drilling fluid circulation and filtration losses ranges from 5 to 20 kg per cubic meter of drilling fluid. To eliminate already registered drilling fluid circulation losses, it is necessary to increase the consumption of this filler up to 30–50 kg per cubic meter of VEC.

Packaging

Integrated colmataging fillers are packaged in 50-kg polypropylene bags with a polyethylene liner or in 800-kg big bags.
