PRZ Pyrolusite Grits

ToT 5711-012-56864391-2009

PRZ Pyrolusite Grits are intended for use in specialized water purification, i.e., eliminating ferric and manganese oxides during the filtration of domestic potable and process water. Iron is not a toxic element; however, a long-time intake of iron results by the human body in the accumulation of redundant iron in the liver in the form of hemosiderin that destroys liver cells. In addition, iron favors an intensive expansion of bacterial population, endows water with off-flavor taste, and conditions the incrustation of crockery, utensils, electric appliances, and bathroom and lavatory equipment. PRZ allows reducing the content of iron and manganese down to ≤0,2 and ≤0,1 1 mg/l, respectively, in a broad range of water composition and properties. PRZ filtering material is a set of natural manganese-containing minerals. The contact of water with manganese superoxides in mineral form oxidizes ferrous iron and turns it to ferric hydroxide (Fe[OH]3) that settles out. In addition, these minerals convert bivalent manganese to hardly soluble manganese dioxide the deposit of which is an active sorbent that neutralizes hydrogen disulfide. To catch the deposits of ferric and manganese hydroxides, we recommend you to use quartzy spherical sand of highly homogeneous grain-size composition. It is also possible to use other kinds of filtering materials in conjunction with PRZ.

Product specs

Mass fraction of MnO2, %, min 50,0
Mass fraction of main grain-size class, %, min 85
Mass fraction of particles larger than the top nominal size, %, max 5
Mass fraction of particles smaller than the minimal nominal size, %, max 10
Bulk density, kg/m3, min 1500

The main size ranges are 0.8 to 1.2 and 0.4 to 0.8 mm. In terms of performance PRZ is way superior to its foreign counterparts, such as Birm Regular è Manganese Greensand.

Application

PRZ is used in conjunction with quartzy sand. The height of the top layer of manganese filtering material is set in a range from 40 to 100 cm, depending on the content of iron in water and performance specs of filters. The high strength and density and low consumption of PRZ ensure its efficient back-flushing and long service life of at least 3 years.

Packaging

PRZ is packaged in 10- and 25-kg polypropylene bags with a polyethylene liner.
